Our Story

Our Story

Situated in the small, picturesque suburb of Vaalpark next to the Vaal River, our school lies on the border between Gauteng and the Free Sate.  We are part of the prestigious Free State Fezile Dabi school district which was named the top performing district in the country for two consecutive years.

We pride ourselves in the fact that we can offer two different streams in our curriculum.  We offer the full academic stream with purely academic subjects, as well as the arts stream where a learner can choose one of our five art disciplines – Drama, Dance, Music, Design and Visual Art.

Learners who matriculate from Vaalpark Articon High School will be able to boast with a full academic Matric consisting of academic subjects only, or a Matric qualification that includes an art discipline.

We offer parallel medium classes in both English and Afrikaans for Grade 8 and 9, meaning that we have separate classes for English- and Afrikaans speaking learners.  In Grade 10, 11 and 12 our classes are integrated and offered in dual medium, i.e. classes are presented in both English and Afrikaans in the same class.

With a teaching staff compliment of 45 highly qualified and enthusiastic teachers, we can accommodate up to 600 learners.  This means that classes are small and focused.

Our Vision

At Vaalpark Articon High School, a school of excellence, we believe in the holistic development of our learners.  We nurture and support their talents in the academic and arts disciplines and enrich their lives with cultural and sports activities.

Our Mission

We envisage a sustained quality in the educational experience where:

  • We aim to sustain a healthy balance between academics, art, culture and sport;

  • We strive to be competitive in academics, sport and art disciplines while creating a healthy and participative spirit in school.
